Sharing My Final Class on Poetic Forms

I just completed my eight-week class with The Center for Journal Therapy – Journal writing for healing, growth and change. I am pursuing the Certified Journal Facilitator certificate with this organization as a "community facilitator."

This class was on poetic forms, always intriguing and entertaining. I am now committing myself to writing a different form each week. More about that later.....

Below are two of my creations from Week 8 and our final assignment:

My Epitaph:

Here lies the nomad Joan

Who has lived in many a home.

But it’s quite certain this simple plot

Will be her final resting spot.

Double Acrostic Challenge: The first letter of each line read vertically and the last letter of each line vertically complete a phrase/sentence. Have you figured this one out?

Exit Now!

A break from poetry, but not for long. Just desiring to give you readers an update as to my travels and new location for the summer.

I accepted a volunteer position in a premier Idaho State Park, Farragut SP, thirty minutes north of my daughter's home in Coeur d'Alene. I lived in desirable downtown CdA until a couple years ago when I sold my 900 square foot home. It was time. I was coming north from Texas to volunteer in Priest SP, still had the home and thought how unnecessary for me to retain it. I needed less responsibility. I moved my permanent residency from Idaho to my beautiful homeplace in Kerrville, Texas.

Here I am! Back again and anxious to spend a cool summer in this gorgeous territory.

My responsibilities here in this park will be working in the Junior Ranger Program. A room in the WWII museum is allocated for the program. I will be attending the volunteer/staff meeting today, getting acquainted with everyone and hopefully see the room which sounds absolutely wonderful. I share the duties with another couple who are returning volunteers. I am definitely the "new kid on the block."

More blog chatter coming - history of Farragut - my exact duties - our living situation here in our travel trailer -

Much to tell you all.

Three Kittens and Their Boop De Doos

Three Kittens and Their Boop De Doos

Three scrawny kittens wore some mittens,

but didn’t need them this day.

Winter was over, the cold was gone,

Twas a lovely time in May!

boop boop de doo and mew mew too

boop boop de doo and and zippity zu

They didn’t cry, why should they

                                                with mittens tucked away?

Three little kittens were sassy sashaying

     that joyous day in May!

Oh, Mother Dear, we have no fear,

you comfort us as we play.

We’re never naughty, you’re always near

this festive month of May!

boop boop de doo and mew mew too

boop boop de doo and zigga zuzu

The pie was served and momma made sure

each kitten was blessed that day

with pudding and pie, cream in the eye

this merriest month of May!

scat cat and boop boop de doo

fat cat and boop boop de doo

(Mew mew it could happen to you.)

The kittens were lucky

their mittens unsoiled.

They were not naughty but nice

to each other and Mother

twice in that month of May.

  ssshhhh cat and zippity zat

    ssshhhh cat and zoogity schmatt

But alas, there was a rat nearby

as the rhyme is told.

Momma smells, babies are hushed,

a cat with a rat can be bold.

boop boop de doo and schmatt one rat

boop boop de doo and zoobbidy zu

So all are feasting as big cats will

and momma completes this song

with encouraging support and love for all

her kittens can do no wrong!

boop boop de doo and mew mew too

boop boop de doo and and zippity zu
